George is working on the synthesis of monolayer hexagonal boron nitride by CVD for his Part II (masters) project. Hexagonal boron nitride is interesting for applications in thin film electronics, as it is an excellent insulating substrate for graphene, with potential for carrier motilities in graphene to equal that for suspended graphene. The project focuses on the synthesis of h-BN, and will involve an investigation of nucleation and growth with respect to the CVD parameters. The project will also look at novel ways of increasing the area of crystalline h-BN monolayers.

Previously George worked on the characterisation of iron oxide nanoparticles with the Oxford Materials Characterisation Service (Summer 2012), as well as the design and development of novel commercial machine vision systems with Interasight Ltd (Summer 2013).
