Short biography

I received my BSc in materials science and engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology in 2008. I was then awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship by the European Commission to carry out my postgraduate studies in advanced materials science (FAME Master Programme). After finishing my first MSc (French master) at Grenoble Institute of Technology in France, I did an internship in the Powder Technology Laboratory at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. The project involved manufacturing of transparent ceramics. I then moved to Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany to obtain my second MSc (German Dipl.-Ing). Shortly afterwards, I joined Prof Valeria Nicolosi's group in the Department of Materials at University of Oxford and worked on functionalisation of inorganic MoSI nanowires with gold nanoparticles. In 2010, I was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship to do my DPhil on the Development of an aerosol-CVD technique for the production of carbon nanotubes with integrated online control in Prof Nicole Grobert's group. By developing a patent-pending technology, I stablish a methodology for understanding the dynamic chemistry of atmosphere of high-temperature reactors and successfully upscaled the production of few-mm thick large-area (ca.100 cm2) carpets of MWCNTs. Since September 2013 I am a postdoctoroal researcher in the group.

Research summary

  • Upscaling the production and post-synthesis treatment of 1-dimensional nanomaterials such as chemically modified carbon nanotubes, carbon nanobuds, boron nitride nanotubes and associated structures, etc.
  • Design and integration of gas analysis apparatus for in-situ analysis of high-temperature nanomaterials reactors.
  • Engineering of composites for thermal management applications.

Teaching activities

A significant part of my time is dedicated to daily supervision and training of undergraduate students and advising PhD candidates. The trainings I offer range from synthesis and processing of 1-dimensional nanomaterials to analytical techniques such as electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, etc.
